HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP WITH MISOPHONIA?

Do you want to minimise your misophonia and feel less reactive?

Would you like to learn how to tolerate trigger sounds?

Do you feel like your misophonia puts you on constantly on edge?

Would you like to reduce the power of a trigger sound to affect you?

Misophonia can involve intense emotional and physical reactions to particular sounds. These reactions may include irritation, anger, anxiety, distress and an overwhelming urge to escape or stop the sound.

For some people, the impact extends beyond the sound itself. Attention becomes fixed on anticipating, monitoring or listening out for the triggers. This can affect relationships, concentration, social activities and everyday experiences.

The Minimise Misophonia Method focuses on working with the responses that can develop around trigger sounds. Using Strategic Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnosis, the program aims to help clients develop a more balanced relationship with the sounds that previously provoked strong reactions.

The objective is not to remove the sounds or change hearing sensitivity. It is to help reduce the emotional significance, fixation and reactivity associated with triggering sounds.

What causes Misophonia and what can I do about it?

How does the Minimise Misophonia Method work?

You may have heard the famous quote by Dr Wayne Dyer, ‘If you change the way you look at things, the things you see change.’

As a hypnotherapist passionate about auditory perception, I suggest that in the same way,

‘If you change the way you listen for things, the things you hear change.”

The Minimise Misophonia Method is a four-part hypnotherapy program developed specifically for individuals experiencing misophonia. The program explores the patterns of attention, interpretation and emotional responses that may contribute to a person’s experience of a trigger sound.

The program works with responses such as:

  • Becoming fixated on trigger sounds.

  • Anticipating and monitoring potential triggers.

  • Assigning increasing significance to repetitive sounds.

  • Experiencing escalating irritation or emotional distress.

  • Allowing trigger sounds to influence mood, relationships and everyday choices.

Through the program, clients explore alternative ways of interpreting and responding to their experiences with the aim of developing greater emotional regulation and a less reactive response to triggers. The method does not aim to eliminate triggering sounds, stop repetitive sounds or change your ability to hear. Instead, it uses hypnosis to influence the way your subconscious mind interprets and responds to those sounds.
